Media Project

For my topic I decided to focus on how technology has impacted the analytical world of the NBA. For those who don’t know, player tracking technology has been introduced into the NBA. This aspect of the game gives valuable insight to players, teams, and fans of the game. Player tracking analytics in the NBA involve the use of advanced technology to collect data on player movements and actions during games. This data is then analyzed to gain insights into various aspects of player performance, team strategies, and game dynamics. Some of the key components are, player movement, shooting analysis, defensive metrics, offensive metrics, player and health workload, game and strategy tactics, and Scouting and Talent Evaluation. These  analytics play a crucial role in enhancing understanding of the game, optimizing player performance, and gaining a competitive edge in the NBA.

As I approached this topic, my biggest goal was to make an engaging video that easily explained the concept of player tracking to a viewer who has no familiarity with basketball or the NBA. A big aspect I wanted to highlight was what this actually looks like in real time with the use of software. I looked in many places for clips but could only find one that was demonstrated through a college game. However, this was a bit of a challenge as the clip was pre cropped and had portions of text excluded from the video, so it translated to my video and looked as if it was an editing mistake. Another big challenge I ran into is that my graphics card on my PC has been outdated and it caused problems with adobe premiere. When I went back to my media project all of my work was gone as it was not saved properly due to my graphics card. This then resulted in my completely restarting my editing process to change portions of my video. Furthermore, as I try to add some sources I can’t embed a link as it says it’s “blocked”.

With peer feedback I made several changes. Unfortunately I submitted my draft late and was left with the feedback from the instructor so I only worked off of that. The first change I made was the color of the title text, in the beginning I thought the black looked good however when I watched it again it felt out of place. I added stroke to the text to add more contrast for a “pop” in the beginning. After that I made changes to the pictures and graphics I added. In the draft I had a clip playing in the background as pictures popped up, I later changed it to pictures taking up the entire screen for a couple seconds, however I ran into another challenge as I couldn’t have the picture full fit the screen as it became burry, so there is a black border around the pictures. After that I added several definitions of text to follow my words as I defined certain analytics captured by player tracking technology to give more importance to these terms.
